Buoux was in the 80's the centre of universe for the best climbers in the world, and few climbing areas has such a historic glamour. A reputation built from very good climbers, but Buoux offers a couple of hundred routes graded 6a to 6c. The climbing is excellent, and many of the routes has to be regarded as the best Europe can offer. The gorge is beautiful, and the compact limestone offers distant pockets and technical climbing.
The summer is to hot, Buoux is best in autumn, spring and during the winter.

Few areas have such a historic glamour, now, local schoolteacher's climb what was regarded as impossible back in the 80's when Buoux was the centre of universe for the climbers in the world.
The compact limestone with distant pockets, technical climbing and a lot of overhangs is tempting climbers from all over the world, but during a visit you meet mainly French climbers. Suited near the coast and big cities as Marseille, AIX-en-Provence, Avignon and Orange Buoux is an oasis for people from the cities.
Even if Buoux reputation is built from the glorious 80's and extreme climbing the crag offers a couple of hundred routes graded 6a to 6c and would be a perfect choice for many climbers for a superb rock climbing holiday.
The climbing is very enjoyable, and if the pockets doesn't suite you; you will find Ardèche, Céüse and Verdon within a couple of hour's drive from the crags in Buoux.
You will see a lot of tourist by the roads and in the small village Buoux, Hiker's, and tourist heading for restaurants in Buoux.

On resting days there isn't much to do. Place a visit at the Buoux Fort with a splendid view over the gorge and the crag, or drive down to Apt with tourist shops, restaurants and bars. In Apt you also find the closest supermarkets if you don't afford the high prices in the restaurants in Buoux. Drive down to the coast, as Swedish, we don't consider the distance as a problem.

Remember to empty your car if you go down to the coast, otherwise someone will do it for you.

The climbing in Buoux is excellent, together with other areas nearby, all covered in the coronn.com euroTOPOS, and this might be the best area in Europe for a climbing holiday. Though... there are many beautiful places and many small crags offers better climbing.
