Mont Blanc in the heart of the Northern Alps is the highest mountain in Europe. The peak is French. The Italians have the "Monte Bianco di Courmayeur" which is slightly below the principal summit, but they have all the great routes. The rock climbing is mainly traditional rock climbing, and if you looking for sport climbing you can find it down in the valleys on both sides of this remarkably mountain-chain, on the French side around Chamonix and on the Italian side near Courmayeur (see the map).

It is easy to reach this rock climbing area, by car from Geneva or Turin or by train from Geneva direct to the center of Chamonix, France. Stay at any of many Hotels or Bed and Breakfasts or at the campsites, you will find plenty of it both on the French and the Italian side.
Reach the rock climbing altitudes by taking the cable-car from Chamonix (France) or from Entreves (Italy), some famous routes is actually on AIGUILLE DU MIDI, the end station of the cable-car from Chamonix. Both in Chamonix and Courmayeur there is very good book stores where you can find rock climbing TOPOS and maps over the area.
