Frankenjura, Germany, a limestone
rock climbing region, has a reputation
for having some of the best crags and a number of the hardest climbs in
Europe (as Action direct, 9a, Güllich). Also a wide range of routes
and boulder problems of varying difficulty are to be found.
Frankenjura is regarded as one of the top
areas for sport climbing in Europe. The many routes covering a wide range
of difficulty, which are located in beautiful surroundings, make it a perfect
holiday destination both for beginners, hard rockclimbers and boulder freaks.
Frankenjura
attracts visitors from Germany and the rest of Europe and is ideal for canoeing,
cycling, walking, summer-bob-sleigh riding, caving, and swimming. It is
ideal for families and groups of climbers.
The area has
good campsites, and almost every village whatever its size has Bed & Breakfast
or small hotels. Good food, good wine, the special taste of German beer
and everything else Frankenjura has to offer make it a place to be recommended
time and time again.
The climate
offers good rock climbing conditions during the spring and autumn
but since many crags are in the shade summer climbing is also enjoyable.
Should it rain then you can pay a visit to Bamberg, or Nürnberg. Both
places have a lot to offer in the way of culture, shopping, good restaurants
and they provide pleasant memories for when you plan your next trip.
To reach the
crags and to enjoy rock climbing in Frankenjura to the full you will need
a car or a bike. Included is a 1:25.000 map to the area, GPS points to crags and most of the car parks.
Enjoy Frankenjura, make it easy!
The Beta version cover more than 8000 routes but is still to be finished. I hope to be able to finish it during 2011.
