Rock climbing in Südpfalz, Germany

Near the France border , West of Karlsruhe, you will find Südpfalz, Germany. It is an area with small picturesque villages. Occasionally Sandstone towers or crags stands surrounded by beautiful broad-leafs and you will find nice rock climbing on many of these.
In the whole area there is over 1000 routes on 40 different crags. You will find the majority South-East of the village Dahn where you also will find camping grounds, Hotel and/or Guest-house, supermarket and a book-store that sell a photo-copy of the rock climbing guide-book of the area.
As many places in Germany where you could find nature and beautiful surroundings the area is a popular tourist resort and during holidays and week-ends a lot of people drive into the area from the near-by cities. The area provides marked footpaths, small winding roads and it is an area well worth visiting for rock climbing and relaxation.
Rock climbing goes back to 1860, and the climbing is technical (as often with Sandstone climbing). Südpfalz is humid in the summer and the best season for climbing is early summer and early autumn.
