Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime is suited
in the Southwest Piedmont, on the border between Italy and France.
The
mountain Argentera (named after Ag, Latin Argentum) is the highest summit
in the area and is because of the road into the park and into the Valle
Gesso easy to access. The scrambling itself is easy, and on the step parts
you will find rope to your help.
From the car park in the valley, Valle Gesso,
the time you need for this hiking/scrambling to the summit is approximately
7 to 10 hours. The difficult passage, if you dont use the rope, could
be regarded as grade 3- or slightly easier. You can also stay over night
in the hut R.Remondino.
From
the summit you will, if you arrive the right day, have a view over many
of the summits in the Alps, including summits as Monte
Viso, Mont Blanc, Dente del Gigante, Grandes Jorasses, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and other summits.
The
Parco naturale delle Alpi Marittime is an oasis of protected nature. It
is a paradise for walkers, few areas can boast the richness of fauna that
the park has, and you will find dozens of kilometres of military roads,
mule tracks and paths running along the parks valleys.
In
the Topos you will find all necessary information for the ascent, as pictures,
information and detailed maps.
