Scrambling/ski mountaineering,
Gran Paradiso, 4061 m
![]()
GRAND PARADISO was the first Park established in Italy by the king Vittorio Emanuele II. The mountain is above 4000 m and easy to access, and many want to reach the summit each year.
The walk, or the ski mountaineering trip, passes over glacier's with few crevasses, and the final part is regarded to be scrambling/climbing in the 2th grade.
THE ROUTE IS LONG and the most spectacular part is to cross a crevasse just before the summit.
Though it is a long walk from the car park at 1600 m up to the summit at 4061 and the route is regarded to be a F+ with a short easy rock climbing part at the end.
The National Park is beautiful and in nice weather you will have a view over many
of the summits in the Alps, including summits as Argentera, Mont Blanc, Dente
del Gigante, Grandes Jorasses, Matterhorn, and Monte Rosa. Because of the high altitude nights and mornings are cold, even in the summer.
Visitors
in general use two days for the ascent. The first afternoon with the walk
from the village Pont to the hut Vittorio Emanuelle II. Then early next day start the harder
part to ascend the summit of Gran Paradiso.
