4.7. Freezing cold

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Freezing cold, after a long journey through North Italy, Germany, Denmark and finally about 1000 km crossing North in Sweden to reach Åre in Jämtland.

freezing1

During the whole trip there where snow covering the landscape, and here in Sweden there has been around 20-25 degrees below zero and this morning the temperature dropped down to 33-34 below zero and then I just could not resist any longer. The camera in hand and with the skis and skins under I had some beautiful hours on the mountain Mullfjället just behind my fathers little house.

If you like Sweden, then download the screen saver prepared for you with the view over the mountains in Jämtland. 1024×768, 1280×1024 or 1280×800.

Longing for Italy, but I need to sell my car and the bureaucracy in Sweden in some cases are as complicated as in Italy, and I am still waiting for the necessary documentation for to sell my car.

In Italy the spring is close, and soon I will be able to continue with the wooden Trike, and this summer, I hope, will be the first big test for the construction.

4.6. Winter

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Winter is here, and that is a reason to stop working in a cold garage. We have had quite a lot of snow and for me this gives an opportunity for ski mountaineering, and for long walks with snow shoes and for some ice climbing.

To take out the wooden Trike would be foolish, and it just has to wait for the spring to arrive.

Now I am on my way for a short trip to some of the sport shops in Northern Italy, then up to München and the sport show ISPO and finally from there a trip to Sweden for to bring my congratulations to my dad, now 80 years old.

But until next time, here is a couple of images from the winter in the Mediterranean Alps.

4.5. Bivy-sack and a lap top sun protecter

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

With new sewing machine’s in the house the Trike project had to step a side for a while. I have had some ideas growing, tumbling around in my head for some years now, and with the machines I got the possibility to give them a try.

The first one is a bivy-sack, or you can say a mini-tent.

I have been using a North Face Roadrunner during my trips in Italy, but after that one of my son’s used it for a hike it had 11 small holes,…that’s life. It really didn’t matter since the tent was extremely bad, constructed without any functional ventilation.

Now I have rebuilt it, used parts from it to build my bivy-sack and for bad weather, a super-light “hood”, self-standing, that I can use if it is raining.

ultra_light_tent

For the bivy-sack I used the heavy textile from the bottom of the tent, and the zip’s. I ordered seam-tapes to get the seam’s water-proof.

bivy_sack

The whole bivy, including the “hood”, has a weight of 1 kg.

I will use it in many different situations, but the idea came up when I struggled in the darkness to reach mountain summits before the sunrise in order to get that magic light. With this light bivouac I can sleep at the summit and get both the dawn and the dusk.

The second idea was a idea to recycle material and make new products from old textiles/leather. First out is this sun-protection for the laptop. Living in Italy I often have wondered if a sun-hood would make it possible to use the lap outside during sunshine, and here it is, and it works, the goat-leather-hood for my lap-top.

lap_top_sun_protection

I used a 30 years old goat-leather jacket and some cordura-textile to get it ready, together with some old webbing that I have after a old back pack.

This is the first of three products that I want to make, maybe, I hope, in the future, you can buy this products from my website coronn.com, thought you need to send me the material, as a old jacket, a old back-pack or others in order to get your new product,….my intention is to make a production that takes good care of environment.

Still working with the trike, but to make the inside looking good is quite boring, however, it is almost done. Tonight I leave for Sweden, returning in a couple of days. Last week I was in Rome, dirty town, no fun.

4.4. Sewing machines

Thursday, November 12th, 2009

Two old but functional sewing machines, one Pfaff 953 with post bed and one Singer 311K. Now I have the necessary machines not only for to sew a cabriolet, but also for to start a mini-production of some ideas that I have.

Today we have sun, as most often, and I hope that I can finish what I started yesterday, with filler, sandpaper and a lot of dusty work I slowly are getting a nice finish on the inside. I use the same type of filler as for wood (constructions), it is cheap, does it works and later I will put on a thin layer of epoxy before I paint it. The sun is quite low during autumn and I put the coach work on the trailer and then it is easy to take it to the back-side of our house where it is sun and warm.

4.3. Brakes in place

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The brakes is there, in front the Magura hydraulic brake. The both back-wheels have the ordinary Campagnolo street bikes brakes, that way I have a good solution since the front wheel, that will take a lot of force, has a really good brake.

wood_ohh

front_brake

Because it is quite tight everywhere in this construction I had to put one of the back wheel brakes in front of the wheel, the other one on the backside, since the moving parts during brake would be interrupted by the coach works. It looks a little bit silly, but,…

With most of the equipment that need to be glued (with epoxy) to the coach work in place I now need to do the last finish at the inside of the coach work. I intend to mix sawdust and epoxy to get a filler (putty) to get a inside finish that is good enough.

Some hard work again, but after I will be able to make a hole for the front wheel, and then I can try the function of the bike with the electric motor, exiting!

Look at this beauty, hover in the sky behind our house.

4.2. Preparing for winter

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Sometimes you have to do things that you dont like, and today is such a day. To be able to continue the work with the wooden trike if the snow arrives I have to clean the garage,…and that is a lot of work!

clean

Now I just have to put everything straight in order. The Magura hydraulic brake has arrived, so I want to get it done and continue with the fun part of life. I ordered the brake from http://www3.hibike.com/ and they delivered quickly and without problem.

I have not yet started with the cabriolet, the reason is that I might be buying a used industrial sewing machine. Far back in time I had a small sewing factory producing harnesses and resque equipment, so I have the skill,…now I have started to dream about a simple machine that could give me plesure and work, there is a lot of things to fix in this part of Italy, and I have some ideas of new products that could be of interest to anyone that need to carry a lot in/to the forest. Well,..we will see.

4.1. Working for to fly

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Today I was lucky enough to see some crow’s, learning a friend how to hang-glide.

crow

Just didn’t want you readers to think I have dropped the project, I just have to many serious things to do to survive. Working with some new shop’s, trying to give them the reasons to take a chance with a new brand,…and then also preparing the last for to publish a new climbing guide line for Frankenjura. 700 crags, 8200 climbing routes, 1200 waypoint’s for the position of car park’s and crag’s, and,…a map covering the whole area in 1:25000.

When this is done I will have time for Wood,..ohh again. Take care out there.

3.9. Waiting for delivery

Friday, October 9th, 2009

I am waiting, the front part of the wooden frame will be fixed to the coach work, and before I have solved the small problem to put a front wheel brake I don’t want to glue it on place. It would be much harder to do a nice work when it is placed, the space round it will be small.

So I have ordered a Magura hydraulic brake and waiting for it to arrive. Though I don’t mind waiting, the autumn has arrived with it’s beauty, the nature explode in autumn colours and the mountain’s is so beautiful.

Went of to the Valpelline and did some mountaineering, super!

If the spring is the time to get the best images of animals, as snakes, Marmot’s, Lynx, the autumn is the landscape and mountain time.

3.8. Electric power

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Spent a day with the trike, mounting the electric motor to get the power down to the front wheel. The construction need to be fixed and includes a possibility to tighten the chain.

electric_bike

Connected the battery to get electricity and vooola! it works. The freewheel function was good but as I hold of the throttle the ball-bearing’s isn’t exact in centre, I need to adjust it slightly tomorrow.

electric_power

We have got some new snow in the mountain down here, quite early, and after some phone calls to the Monte Rosa area we decided to go to Gran Paradiso instead. A summit above 4000, easy to access, but also there we meet some new snow near the summit. We reach the summit, without electric power.

3.7. Special tools

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

I have been out visiting shop’s, though the Klättermusen concept has yet a long way to go in Italy. The shop keeper’s tell me their costumers are more for fashion than function, and the products I have is quite nice looking, but definitely designed with function in the first room. Products for ski mountaineering, Hiking and climbing, not for after ski.

Back home, a little bit tired but with a broadcast that promise sun in the high mountain, so on Tuesday we will go to the Monte Rosa massif.

wooden_trike1

Time enough to do some reinforcements on the coach work. Placing the back wheels was exciting, and I was lucky. In the small parts of the coach work to cover the wheels I find that the wheel has 2-3 mm on each side free from the coach work. On top, the wheels has about 5 mm free space. I had to construct a special tool to hold the nut in on the inside of the wheels, but isn’t it so, that all exclusive vehicles comes with a set of special tools?

tight1

I don’t know if the distance between the coach work and the asphalt is enough, for now only 20 mm, lets see in real driving if the coach work hits the ground,…I have put some extra fibre glass to protect it from an early crash.

20_mm

I had to reinforce the construction quite a lot to get the wheels to become fixed, and still I don’t know if it is enough. I think it will do, since I can hardly move them at all sideways with hand force, but I don’t know how it will work in 45-50 km/hour, if I have manage to place them straight I suppose there will be no problem…(?)
I have also made a reinforcement where I put my load enter the trike.
